Braskem first and only

Using ethane derived from 100% renewable resources, Brazilian
petrochemical firm Braskem has announced the creation of a biobased
high-density polyethylene (HDPE), applying sugar-cane ethanol as a
feedstock.
Targeting commercial production by 2009, Braskem reports investing $5
million in the project, including the creation of a pilot unit at
Braskem's Technology and Innovation Center that's already producing
unspecified amounts of the material. Braskem's goal is industrial-
scale production with a potential annual capacity of 200,000 tons.
